Mr. Ira William Todd, age 77 of Madison, Indiana, entered this life on January 24, 1946 in Madison, Indiana. He was the loving son of the late William Lee and Nancy Ella Jones Todd. In 1965, he graduated from Madison Consolidated High School and then pursued additional studies at Ivy Tech Community College. On February 23, 1966, he was inducted into the United States Army in Louisville, Kentucky. Trained as an aircraft mechanic, Ira served during the Vietnam era at Fort Rucker Alabama, Fort Eustis Virginia and Fort Sill Oklahoma. He was honorably discharged from active duty on February 21,1968 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma receiving the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Sharpshooter (Rifle) Badge. He remained in the Reserves until being discharged on February 22, 1972. On March 30, 1969, he was united in marriage to Betty Sue Tomlinson in Madison, Indiana. Soon after his military stint, Ira commenced a 42-year career with Grote Industries of Madison, Indiana. He joined the manufacturing plant as a materials handler and quickly advanced in managerial responsibilities to become foreman of the molding division where he merited amongst colleagues the affectionate label of "Plastics Guru." Ira's command of the plastic manufacturing process, along with his continuing educational pursuits, commitment to quality, and cooperative style, eventually led to the appointment of injection molding plastics process engineer. After retiring, in 2017 Ira joined the staff of Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre where he served as an adjunct service associate for six years. His gentle, caring ways helped console many families in their times of grief, plus his welcoming, soft demeanor always prompted a smile in return from neighbors, co-workers and friends visiting the Centre. Ira belonged to Trinity United Methodist Church, Quarter Century Club and Lamp Lighters with Grote Industries, and Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 of the American Legion. Ira will be remembered for his caring, kind and genuine nature. A man of dapper style, Ira took pride in always looking his best.
