Wife of "John" Jan Hurta.
Married: 1914 in Taylor, Williamson County, Texas.
She was born in Rakova, Holesov, Czechy.
Mother of Joe Edd, Annie, and Rosa Hurta.
"Rosalie and her first husband, Leopold Lauschmann, arrived in Galveston in 1907. They had two children, Albina born in 1908, and Leo Jr born in 1910.
Around 1911, Leo Sr is sent to prison for theft. Rosalie then marries the widower, Jan Lednicky.
His first wife died in 1911 leaving him with three small children. So Rosalie and her daughter, Albina are living with Jan and his children in 1912. (I don't know what happened to Rosalie's son, Leo Jr. but he is not with them).
On June 5, 1912, according to newspaper articles from Burleson County and elsewhere, the house burns at night, and a neighbor comes to help, goes to the cistern for water and finds four children drowned and the mother unconscious in the cistern.
Later articles indicated that Rosalie is suspected of purposely drowning the children, but no one knows what really happened. Anyone who knows is deceased.
It could have been a case of temporary insanity, or it could have been murder. Rosie may have suffered from Depression, and it went un-diagnosed.
In those days, people did not admit to any problems, because they considered it a weakness. The only treatment was "shock treatments" or lock up for people with mental illnesses or disabilities.
In 1914 Rosalie married John Hurta, she had a son, Henry, born later in 1912, but Henry uses his adoptive father's name, Hurta."
