He was born Oct. 26, 1934, in Yates Center to John Leo and Mary Frances (Maryweather) Hoag. He married Norma Loerine Powell Oct. 27, 1984, in Newton. She survives of the home.
He moved from Newton to Emporia in 1987. He was a member of Catholic church in Yates Center and American Legion Ball-McColm Post No. 5. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1958. He graduated from high school in Yates Center.
Other survivors include: three sons, David Hoag of Oxford, Wade Hoag of Newton and Scott Hoag; four daughters, Jacquline Lastalle of Erath, La., and Denise Hoag, Janet Hoag and Kristie Hoag, all of Newton; one brother, Donald Hoag of Springdale, Ark.; two sisters, Marguerat Conkle of Lebo and Joyce Slater of Yates Center; three step daughters, Norma "Aileen" Richardson of Council Grove, Pearl "Jane" Hughes of Emporia and Peggy Lou Becker of Aurora, Colo.; two step sons, William Berrong and Clifford Berrong, both of Emporia; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, one brother, David Hoag; and one grandson, Jonathan Hoag.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Carlson Funeral Home in Emporia with Father Peter O'Sullivan from Sacred Heart Church in Emporia officiating. Graveside Military Honors by American Legion Ball-McColm Post No. 5 in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Emporia.
Family will greet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials have been established with John L. "Jack" Hoag Jr. Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
