Professional Baseball Player. He played in the Negro Leagues during the 1940s. He was born as Harvey Young to Ezra Young and his wife Minnie Hays Lane Green Young in Nashville, Tennessee, on October 22, 1920. He played the position of shortstop and third baseman with the New York Black Yankees making his professional debut with them in 1941. The 5'1" and 126lbs shortstop and third baseman who threw right also played for the Baltimore Elite Giants in 1943, the Atlanta Black Crackers in 1943, and the Kansas City Monarchs in 1944. His 162 Game Average consisted of 599 Plate Appearances, -5.3 Total Wins Above Replacement, -3.0 Offensive Wins Above Replacement, -3.0 Fielding Wins Above Replacement, 0.0 Pitching Wins Above Replacement, and 0.7 Positional Adjustments. After leaving professional baseball he was drafted during World War II, and worked as a Porter for the Berry Loan Company in Nashville, Tennessee, until his untimely passing. He passed away suddenly from an inflammation of the pancreas while en route to the Hubbard Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, on August 1, 1959, at the age of 38. Following his death, his funeral service was held through Patton Bros. Funeral Directors in Nashville, Tennessee, and he was buried in Mount Ararat Cemetery in Nashville, Tennessee. He was married to Bertha Mai Thompson Young and the couple had one child together, an infant daughter who was born on June 19, 1945, and sadly passed away the following day on June 20, 1945.
