DEATH OF A PIONEER
Uncle George Boyd is Called Away, Funeral Service Sunday
George Boyd, son of Mary and William Boyd, was born near Wilmington, Ohio, Nov. 15th, 1830 and died at the home of his nephew, Silas Busby, and wife, near Converse, Ind., Friday morning, Nov. 3rd , 1916, aged 85 years, 11 months, and 18 days.
While yet a young man he came with his parents from Ohio to this county where he resided until his death, which came after an illness of two weeks.
He was the oldest child in a family of eight, two having died in infancy and one other, William, while yet small. Two brothers, Benjamin and Solomon, have been dead many years. A sister, Delphina Hays, died near here about four years ago. One sister, Margaret Simons, whom we all know, still lives.
At the age of 29 he met and married Nancy Jane Morris. They began housekeeping 57 years ago on the farm where he died.
For many years he has been one of the oldest members of the Masonic Lodge of Converse.
During the pastorate of Mordieu Painter, he with his wife united with the Friends Church at Amboy over forty years ago.
Uncle George Boyd, as he was familiary known by all who knew and loved him, was the father of two sons, Charles who lives on his farm northwest of Amboy, and Harvey G. Boyd, who with the widow resides in Converse. There are four grand-children, Loa and Losoe, son and daughter of Charles and Rhoda Boyd; also Ethel and Emily, daughters of Harvey and Dessie Boyd. Uncle George will be remembered and missed by many.
The funeral was held at the Amboy Friends Church Sunday morning at eleven o'clock in charge of Rev. J. J. Fred of Fairmount, assisted by Rev. R. A. Napier. The service was very largely attended. Interment was made at Park Lawn north of town.
