Age 93, daughter of the late Frank and Catherine Yurchak. She spent her childhood in Waterford, PA before moving to Erie, PA where she lived most of her life. Since 2009, she lived in Denton, TX. Sophie was a dedicated homemaker and mother, but she also worked at General Electric, Boston Store, Visiting Nurses Association, and her niece's book store. She grew up on a farm and loved tending to her garden right up until the time she moved to Texas. Sophie liked to cook and was especially fond of baking cookies for neighbors and family. She also enjoyed reading, knitting, painting ceramics and working jigsaw puzzles.
In addition to her parents, Sophie was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Thomas F. Bensur, in 1988; as well as her siblings, sisters, Anna Rhineberger, Mary Kaschak, Helen Roderman, and Julia Yurchak, who died in infancy, and brothers, John Yurchak and Wassel Yurchak.
Sophie is survived by her son, Nathan Bensur, his wife, Michelle and grandson, Nolan all of Plano, TX; grandson, Justin Bensur of Kansas City, KS; her daughter, Brenda K. Brown and husband, Shaun of Lewisville, TX; and many nieces and nephews.
