Mrs. Aila S. Germain, aged 100, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, March 19, 2008. Aila was born November 10, 1907 in New York City the daughter of David and Hilma Soini. Her parents moved to Port Huron when she was a young girl.
She graduated from Port Huron High School in 1926 and then attended Port Huron Business College.
In 1936 she married Ernest F. Germain who was in charge of the Collection Department at the Port Huron Times Herald and preceded her in death in 1942.
After Ernie's death she worked for several years as Secretary to the Superintendent of Schools in Port Huron.

Surviving are her son, David and his wife, Nancy, of Howard City; 2 grandchildren, George of Stanton and Emily (Joseph) Shea of Arlington, MA; 5 great-grandchildren, Anthony and Ellen Marie Germain of Lakeview, Owen Francis, Alec David, and Margaret Aila Germain Shea of Massachusetts; a brother, Aino "Cap" Soini of Port Huron; her former daughter-in-law, Rosemarie (Bob) Germain Greene; also several nieces and nephews.

Also preceding her in death were 3 brothers and 4 sisters.

The service for Mrs. Germain will be Monday afternoon at 1:00 o'clock at the Pederson Funeral Home, 127 N Monroe St., Rockford, MI, with Pastor Ric Tigchon officiating.

Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Port Huron, MI.

Those desiring an expression of sympathy may consider the Resident's Fund at Schnepp Health Care Center, 427 E. Washington St., St. Louis, MI 48880.

Family and friends may meet with Mrs. Germain's family from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home
