"Daily Northwestern", Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Wednesday, Sept. 12,1962: Mrs. Margaret A. Thorn, 90, of 827 John Street, died today at 9:25 a.m. at Mercy Hospital, where she had been a patient since July 1.
She was born in Weyauwega on September 29, 1871, youngest child of Isaac C. and Illetherea Hayford Alden. Mrs. Thorn represented a ninth generation from John and Priscilla Alden, members of the Pilgrim Colony of 1620.
She was a member of the first graduating class of Weyauwega High School, taught for a time in Waupaca County schools, and in 1896 was graduated from the Oshkosh Normal School.
She taught in Oshkosh schools and also was an assistant librarian at the Normal School. Later, she studied at the New York School of Social Service, and had been employed for 13 years in the probation department of Winnebago County.
In 1899, she was married to Gerrit Thorn. Since 1899, with the exception of four years in Markesan and Appleton, she had resided in Oshkosh. Mrs. Thorn was a member of First Congregational Church. There are no immediate survivors.
Services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Seefeld Funeral Home, with the Rev. Nels F. Nordstrom, pastor of First Congregational Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Weyauwega Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 6-8 p.m.
