In 1929 he married Paraska Hudak and soon immigrated to Canada. His parents and siblings (Mary, Andrew, Anna, and Nellie) remained in Europe.
They settled in Toronto where John and Paraska raised their three children, Alexander, Emily (Milia), and Anna.
John passed into eternal rest on 20 April 1986 in Toronto, Ontario.
Note: Presently, Olchowiec is a village in Dukla, within Krosno County, in south-eastern Poland, close to the border with Slovakia. 12 kilometres south-west of Dukla.
The ship's manifest says John was born in Poland but his race and language are both listed as Ukrainian.
