Alice was united in marriage to Mr. Eli N. Bailey October 16, 1885, when the nealty married couple came to Eureka where they have made their home ever since.
Her final home going occurred on Saturday July 21, 1920, after three days of acute illness following a long period of failling health. In the years of her residence in Eureka Mrs. Bailey was active in social and religious circles, at the same time assisting her husband in his business as druggest. She was one of the founders of the Entre Nous Club in 1892. The library can justly be called a "monument to her momory." She was also an active member of the Altrurian Club and active in the Double Six Club.
Early in life she became a Christian and united with the Presbyterian Church, continuing a member until the church was disbanded here, when the membership was placed in the Congregational Church where it continued until the last.
She was an active church member for a period of years. When some heavey burdens were to be borne she was president of the Aid Society and during the period a large sum of money was raised sufficient to pay all indebtedness. Here was a consistent Christian Life.
Mrs. Bailey always did her share of the world's work and she was preeminently gifted. In furnishing her share of the sunshine and good cheer of life. Her kindly deeds and smiles will long be remembered by those who knew her.
Of her family she is survived by her husband, her brothers, W.F. Guess of Dexter, Missouri, J.C.B. Guess of Vincennes, Indiana, Geo. Guess of Louisville, Ky., her sisters, Mrs. Mollie Cullison of Bridgeport, Illinois, Mrs. Phoebe Lamont, Arkansas City, Kansas. Her nephew, Mrs. Edward Perkins, and her neice, Miss Nellie Perkins of Wichita, were the only relatives near enough to be present at the funeral.
Funeral service was conducted at the family home Monday, August 2nd by the pastor of the Congregational Church, Rev. E.V. Gardner, and a former paastor, Rev. C.B. Wells of Wichita. The body was laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery.
