Julian Sands was reported missing on January 13, 2023, after hiking alone on Mount Baldy in California. His remains were found in the Goode Canyon area of Mount Baldy by hikers on June 24, 2023, and positively identified by the Los Angeles County Coroner on June 27, 2023.

On July 24, 2023, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department announced that the cause of death has been deemed "undetermined" due to the condition of Sands' body, and no other factors were discovered during the coroner's extensive investigation. The final autopsy report has not been released.

On August 10, 2023, the hikers who discovered Sands' remains revealed that Sands did not appear to be equipped with the proper gear for safely hiking in the harsh winter conditions that he faced.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
