71, of Marana, Ariz., formerly of Springfield, died at 8:10 p.m. Friday at Veterans Hospital in Tucson, Ariz.
He was born Aug. 18, 1920, in Springfield, the son of Fred and Margaret Phillips. He married Ruby Rusher in 1943 in Indianapolis, Ind.
He was a dispatcher for the Springfield Fire Department, retiring in 1970. Mr. Phillips was a lifelong resident of Springfield until moving to Marana, Ariz., in 1970. He was a member of Hall-Hagler Chapter 15 DAV and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Ruby M.; three sons, Floyd A. Jr. of Lincoln, Dale M. of Auburn, and Jerry L.; three daughters, Zona Skeens of Tampa, Fla., Mrs. Richard (Nancy Lee) Cleeton of Vancouver, Wash., and Mrs. John (Peggy Ann) Champley of Mount Zion; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ellis of California, Freddy and Joseph, both of Springfield; four sisters, Gladys Hamilton of Athens, Mrs. James (Lois) Wakefield of Cypress, Calif., Mrs. Ray (Gwen) Hon of Hazelcrest, and Mrs. Robert (Sharon) Jacobs of Rochester; several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Vancil Memorial Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Victor Kaltenbach officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
