Carol was born and raised in western Washington, where she attended business school, took cake decorating classes, and worked for Skagit Valley Community College. Carol eventually relocated to Cheney, WA in 1988 with her then husband, Tom Golden and their two children. Carol worked for Eastern Washington University for over 30 years, supporting multiple departments and making friends everywhere she landed. A two-time breast cancer survivor, Carol was a warrior who gave inspiration and hope to everyone she encountered. Carol remarried in 2018, to her loving husband, Greg Sanders. In their retirement they lived every moment to the fullest, traveling, camping and spending every minute together. Her favorite adventure was their 7700-mile motorcycle trip, crossing 13 different states and riding on Route 66.
Carol was especially known for her love of baking, crafts, reading books and disappearing with her husband on the motorcycle. Family was most important to her, opening her doors to many EWU exchange students over the years, who she immediately considered family. "The more, the merrier" she used to say.
