LEO RICE, JR.

Leo C. Rice Jr., 74, of Flint, formerly of Kingsford, went to be with the Lord on Nov. 21, 2002, at Tampa General Hospital following heart surgery. Leo was born April 17, 1928 in Kingsford, son of the late Leo and Hazel (Vandehey) Rice.

He graduated from Kingsford High School in 1946. Leo was self-employed in car sales for many years. He enjoyed sporting events and loved the Green Bay Packers.

Leo was preceded in death by his son, Michael Ray Rice; and a daughter, Pamala Jean Rice; and by five brothers, Jackie, Melvin, James, Robert, and Bernard Rice.

Leo is survived by his son, Timothy Rice of Tampa Bay, Fl.; two daughters, Kay Rice Ellis of Saline, and Kimberly Damron of Tampa, Fl.; his long-time companion, Donna Evans of Flint; a brother, William (Delores) Rice of Kingsford; four grandchildren, Molly and Martin Rice and Megan and Trevor Danron; sisters-in-law Lois and Shirley Rice; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Monday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain, with Parish prayers offered at 5:30 p.m. His life was celebrated with gratitude and joy at 11 a.m. Tuesday at American Martyrs Church in Kingsford. Father Joseph Gouin and Fr. Chris Gardner concelebrated the Mass of the Christian Burial. Burial was in Cemetery Park. Pallbearers were his nephews, Randy, Terry, Paul, and Larry Rice, Brad Machus, Dave LaVarnway, and Jon Olson. A memorial will be established in his memory to the Northwoods Airlifeline.
