1st TN Infantry (Turney's Regiment)

John Frizzell, son of Nathan and Mary Jones Frizzell, was born September 8, 1829 in Bedford (now Coffee) County, Tennessee. In 1841 he moved with his parents to Winchester, Franklin County, Tennessee.

In 1854 he was licensed to practice law and was in partnership with Arthur S. Colyar and Albert S. Marks. He served as a trustee of the Robert Donnell Female Institute and Mayor of Winchester in 1856.

During the war he volunteered as a private in the 1st Tennessee Infantry (Turney's Regiment) but was commissioned as captain and placed in charge of transportation and the auditing of railroad accounts until the end of the war.

For about two years after the war, he was associated in law practice with Colonel Turney. In 1868 Frizzell moved to Nashville, Tennessee and was appointed Judge Referee for East Tennessee by the State Supreme Court. President of the Nashville Grand Masonic Lodge.

Judge Frizzell was married to Mary Sharp College graduate Matilda Winford in 1854. They were the parents of five children. He died in Nashville in 1894.
