DEATH AND BURIAL:

The following information regarding the death of Mrs. Isaac Balding and her son by her first husband, and their burial in the "English Burying Ground," is taken from "The Records of Christ Church (Poughkeepsie)," edited by Helen Wilkinson Reynolds:

Page 262:
1851, Nov. 30, Mrs. Isack Baldin, s. of her son in plot 165

Page 268:
1844, Apr. 17, Mr. Budd, son-in-law of ( I. I. ? ) Baldwin, in the n. w. corner of plot 165.

(NOTE: it is not clear if the date listed is the date of death or burial.)

Part III of this publication consists of the "Records of Death and Burial in the Parish of Christ Church 1768 – 1916." The Editorial Preface on page 239 notes that the English Burying Ground was used from 1828 until the 1870s. "In 1887 a portion of it was cleared for the erection of the present Christ church and a number of stones were removed to the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. What was formerly called the 'English Burying Ground' is now known as Christ Church Square" (at Academy and Montgomery streets).

The publication includes several different lists of persons who were interred in the English Burying Ground. For example, List #1 is of stones moved in 1888 and set in a plot purchased by the Church in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. Lists 2 through 7 are of stones which were privately removed to family plots in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. List #8 is of stones which were still located at Christ Church Square as of 1901.

Mrs. Isaac Balding and her son Mr. Budd are included in List #12, which contains the names of persons recorded in the Sexton's Record as having been buried in the English Burying Ground, but for which there is no information as to the disposition of the gravestone, if there was one.
