"Mrs. Johanna Protzmann has died
Mrs. Johanna Protzmann (nee Keese) died at 6 o'clock Sunday evening at the age of 68. She had been a resident of our city for 52 years in her apartment, 2212 St. Louis Avenue.
Her husband Wilhelm Protzmann preceded her in death on 5 October 1898.
Born in Boffzen in the Duchy of Braunschweig on 22 November 1838, she came to St. Louis at the age of 16 and married on 22 February 1857.
The happy marriage brought six children, three of whom are still living: Minna C. Protzmann, Emma C. Marquard (nee Protzmann) and Wm. Protzmann, the well-known draperies/textiles dealer from North St. Louis.
One daughter, Mrs. George C. Marquard, preceded her in death. Eleven grandchildren, a son-in-law, and a daughter-in-law mourn the passing of the loyal grandmother.
The deceased was an active member of our local retirement home of the General Protestant Orphanage, the women's group of the Independent Evangelical-Protestant congregation, and the Daughters of Rebecca charitable organization."
