Evelyn (McCarty) Bennett Higley, 105, of Forksville, passed away Friday, July 7, 2023, at Williamsport North Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

Born November 8, 1917, in Forksville, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Frank and Jessie (Day) McCarty. She graduated from the former Estella High School. On September 8, 1939, she married her first husband, Fred C. Bennett who passed away on October 20, 1978. She remarried on April 23, 1988, to her second husband, Laurence Higley who passed away on June 18, 2009. Evelyn worked briefly outside of the home but dedicated her life to raising her children and family. She loved reading, word searches, playing Scrabble and writing letters to service men overseas, friends, family, and neighbors. At the age of 92, she traveled to Yellowstone, Mount Rushmore, the Badlands and visited family in Montana. A trip that she always cherished with her family.

Evelyn was a member of the St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Forksville where she also helped with many church luncheons. She was a member of the Sullivan County Fair and could always be found working in the grandstand. She was also a very active member of the local Grange and BEF Club.
