Dorothy Cheeseman Keele Larsen
CENTENARIAN
1923 - 2023

We are sad to announce the passing of Dorothy Cheeseman Keele Larsen who passed away peacefully on Monday, July 17, 2023—just four months shy of her 100th birthday.

Dorothy was born November 7, 1923, in South Sioux City, Nebraska, to Harry Albert "Bert" and Lucy Teager Cheeseman. She lived the first five years of her life with her parents and older sister, Harriette on a U.S. Forest Ranger Station in Kendall, Wyoming, where her father was a forest ranger. The family then moved to Kemmerer, Wyoming, where they lived until Dorothy was twelve. Her father accepted an administrative job with the Forest Service, and the family moved to Provo, Utah, where Dorothy spent the remainder of her life.

She met and fell in love with Vern Warner Keele; they were married February 7, 1945, in Henderson, Nevada, where he was stationed with the United States Air Force. They welcomed two children into their family: Patricia Dee and Vern Michael.

Dorothy had many jobs during her lifetime but is most well-known for her job as a librarian at Provo High School from 1970 to 1997. It was there that she gained a love of reading.

Vern passed away due to bone cancer in December 1972, and Dorothy was alone for 14 years before meeting and falling in love with John "Elmo" Larsen. They were married in June of 1986. They enjoyed traveling and cruising until Elmo was disabled by a stroke and passed away in June of 1995—just one year shy of their 10th wedding anniversary.

Dorothy outlived her parents; sister, Harriette Cheeseman Anderson; and both husbands, Vern and Elmo. She is survived by Patti and Charles Luke, Mike and Beverly Keele, Carol Larsen Jackson, and James and Linda Larsen; 20 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Dorothy will be interred in East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery in Provo, Utah. There will be a graveside burial and dedication of the grave Thursday, July 20, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery. A "Celebration of Dorothy" will be held Thursday July 20, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Legacy Village of Provo, 4146 N University Avenue. Please join us as we talk of, cry, laugh, and remember Dorothy.
