EFFIE Zwolak: born on March 6, 1907 ( Winnipegosis, MB; Rm of Mossey River); died on February 23, 2002 at the Seven Oaks Hospital, Winnipeg, MB (age 94).
I received a copy of the 'Official Notice of Marriage' document (No. 1926-03139) in September 2023. Effie (age 18 on doc. but was actually age 19, occupation - housekeeper) married John A. Mazur, age 28, a School Teacher, Residence: Sewell, MB (born 1898 in Poland; his father - Frank Mazur; mother - Evelyn Shul; he died May 18, 1973 at home in Winnipeg, MB); married on July 13, 1926 in Winnipegosis, MB; RM of Mossey River. They married by License - No. 10224. The Form 2 document states: "Registered Number 11 Filed at this Office 20th day of July 1926".
Effie and John are buried at the Thomson in the Park Cemetery (formerly called Garry Memorial Park), Winnipeg, MB.

They had 2 daughters:
- Gladys Holmes nee Mazur (born 1935; died March 7, 2013; married Douglas C.A. Holmes born 1933; died 1995; they are buried at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Winnipeg, MB)
- and Irene Mary Drebit nee Mazur (born August 20, 1929 in Winnipeg, MB; died July 12, 2021 in Penticton, BC; married Stanley Drebit).

Aunt Effie was my Great-aunt. I remember visiting her home many times as a young girl with my mom (Marvis Kilgour nee Patterson), Dad and family.

Parents: Maria/Mary (nee Chamek) and Jacob Zwolak

Maria and Jacob had 13 children (3 died young; there were 2 stillborn, which we found out from reading the copy of the 'Official Notice of Birth' for the twin girls who were born premature and died 2 weeks later; no one talked of the 2 other stillborn children -- we just assumed it was always just 11 pregnancies with 3 infants dying very young; I received that document on Sept. 27, 2023).
1. LIKARIA (LENA) died before she was 1 year old (in late 1899 or possibly January 1900). She was approximately 5 months old when she and her parents emigrated to Canada in 1899 from Western Ukraine (Austria at the time). We have since found out some information that there was a bad snow storm in May of 1899 (the article was about settlers in the Olha, MB area, where they mentioned the hardship of that Spring snowstorm, which no doubt also hit the area where Maria, Jacob and baby Lena were as it was relatively close by). So Likaria may have caught pneumonia at this time.
2. ANNA/ANNIE: born August 1900; R.M. of Mossey River; died January 29, 1981 (age 80). Anna married Theodore 'Fred' Markus on May 10, 1916; (she was only age 15, turning 16 in a few months); married in the RM of Mossey River (Winnipegosis, MB); both buried at the Elmwood Cemetery in Winnipeg, MB. They had 2 sons - Marvin and Henry (Hank).
3. CAROLINE (Karolka): born May 1902; died October 30, 1995 at age 93 at Beacon Hill Lodge, Winnipeg, MB; 'Carolina' (age 15) married Henry Gushe on November 13, 1917 at Mossey River (original name was 'Andreas/Andrew Guz' but legally changed his name in the 1940's); they had no children. They are both buried at the Elmwood Cemetery in Winnipeg, MB.
4. NELLIE (listed as 'Anastazia' on birth record and in her obituary): born April 1, 1905 (Dauphin, MB); died May 29, 1987 (age 82); she married Michael 'Mike' Balabas; they had 2 daughters, Margaret & Elizabeth (Betty). Both Nellie and Mike are buried at the Gimli Cemetery.
5. EFFIE: born: March 6, 1907; died: February 23, 2002 at the Seven Oaks Hospital (age 94); married John A. Mazur on July 13, 1926 (Mossey River); they had 2 daughters: Gladys and Irene (I found their gravesite on another online website; they are buried at Thomson in the Park Cemetery, Winnipeg, MB - used to be called Garry Memorial Park).
6. PAUL: born December 7, 1908; died September 21, 2008 (age 99); married Nellie Harrison on May 8, 1937 (in Winnipegosis, MB). They had 2 daughters: Iris and Patricia. Paul and Nell are buried at the Gimli Cemetery.
7. LENA (aka Likaria/Likeria) --she was named after the first born sibling - Lena - who passed away as a baby in 1899; born May 25, 1911; married Ernie Greer. Ernie and Lena had no children. I am not sure where they are buried. Lena lived the longest of all the Zwolak siblings.
8. MARY ( 'Maria' on birth record) -- My Grandmother -- born July 30, 1912; that is the day she celebrated her birthday. However, on her Manitoba Vital Statistics record (I received a copy of the original handwritten document on May 31, 2023), it states clearly that her date of birth is August 1, 1912. She married Sieffert Patterson (Petryshen/Petryshyn) on July 12, 1930 in Winnipegosis, MB. Mary died on May 12, 2001 (age 88) at the Winnipegosis Hospital; she had a heart attack. Grandpa Sieffert was born September 27, 1907, Winnipegosis, MB; he passed away on October 25, 1967 (age 60) at the Winnipeg General Hospital (now known as Health Sciences Centre) Winnipeg, MB; he was in hospital for a little while; everyone thought he had a stroke because he had a partially paralyzed hand/arm but he actually had a brain tumor and died of complications after the doctors tried to remove it. They had 3 children: Marvin (born 1933), Marvis (my mom) born 1939; and Elizabeth born 1943. Both Mary and Sieffert are buried at the 'Holy Ascension Ukrainian Catholic Church Cemetery', Winnipegosis, MB.
9. ANDREW HENRY ('Slim'): born June 30, 1918; died March 12, 2004; age 85; married Mary Martyniuk (Martiniuk) on April 28, 1946; children -- 4 girls (2 sets of twins): Valerie & Virginia and Patricia & Donna.
10. and 11. Pearl & Justice (twin girls) born premature on January 29, 1920 ( they died approximately 2 weeks later). They are buried together at the 'Old Farm Church' in Winnipegosis, MB. The grave was unmarked; it has an old wooden cross; now there is a temporary limestone marker placed on the cross by Lillian & Larry Procyshyn (July 2023) -- Thank you! I plan on getting a marker up soon with their names, date of birth, etc
