Bernard Alston Bailey, 77, of Great Cacapon, died Saturday, June 10, 2006 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg.

Born June 11, 1928 in Paw Paw, he was the son of the late Leonard Alston and Emily Jane Parrill Bailey.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He attended public schools in Paw Paw.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of Harley Bohrer American Legion Post # 128 in Paw Paw.

He first worked as a trackman with the B & O Railroad and then as a truck driver with West Virginia Department of Highways.

He enjoyed reading, fishing, hunting and was an avid fan of auto racing.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Frances Rebecca Henderson Bailey, at home; four sons, Marshall Boyce Bailey and Roland Alston Bailey, both of Berkeley Springs, Leonard Charles Bailey, Ft. Pierce Fla. and Marvin Lee Bailey, Great Cacapon; one sister, Lorraine Lee Twigg, Berkeley Springs; two brothers, Dale Willard Bailey, Martinsburg, and Preston Kennedy Bailey, Gouverneur, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Jonathan Bernard Bailey, Great Cacapon, and David Alston Bailey and Tommy Wayne Bailey, both of Berkeley Springs; two great granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Lee Alston Bailey, one sister, Sonja Laverne Bailey and three brothers, Clarence Bailey, Marshall Boyce Bailey and Bryan Rudell Bailey.

Funeral Services were conducted Tuesday, June 13 at Helsey-Johnson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs, with Pastor Kenneth L. DeHaven officiating. Interment with graveside military honors provided by the Tri-State Honor Guard were at Camp Hill Cemetery, Paw Paw.
