Age 62 Years
While working on his mining claims near Eureka, Andy came down with pneumonia and four days later, near the hour of midnight, answered the call of death at Miners Union Hospital. He was born in Canada, the son of Mr. Kauth, whose first name was not found, and the former Barbara Link, who was born in Germany. Andy had lived in the Silverton area thirty years and was one of the oldest San Juan County residents. he was known throughout the district, for his honest methods and manly ways in all dealings. Always kind and charitable, he was full of affection for the unfortunate, and went about doing good deeds. His many dear old time friends sincerely mourned his death.
His funeral on a Sunday afternoon was largely attended and burial was at Hillside. Andy's brother, C. Kauth, and daughter, Miss Emma Kauth, came from Halstead (or Fredonia), Kansas, to attend the funeral. In 1988, D.G. Kauth of Soundridge, Ontario, Canada, was researching the Kauth family history."
