He was married to Anna Spais on December 23, 1922, at Carlinville, Illinois. She preceded him in death on January 17, 1950.
A retired miner, Mr. Riva had been employed by No. 7 [coal] mine for 15 years and was a member of
the P.M.W. of A. local. He served with the Army during WW I and was a member of VFW Post 1241 of Staunton.
Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at the Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton with VFW Chaplain John Minkanic officiating. The VFW Post 1241 conducted military graveside rites at the interment in Memorial Park Cemetery.
He is survived by two sons, John Riva of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, and Maurice Riva of Staunton; two daughters, Mrs. Lowell (Rose) Lovejoy of Staunton and Mrs. Don (Gloria) Eilers of New Douglas; also 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, two brothers and one sister.
