"Henry P. Karnes, sixty-six years old, died at 8:45 this morning at the family home, 1017 North Twentieth street. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, the Misses Marie and Martha Karnes. Also surviving are brothers and sisters as follows: John C., James G., and Joseph N. Karnes of St Joseph; Mrs. Clara E. Bethel of Wathena, Kan.; Mrs. F. M. Gaines of Avenue City, Mo.; and the Misses Matilda, Sally and Katie Karnes of this county. The dead man was a prominent fruit grower of this county, where he had lived twenty years." "Henry P. Karnes, who died at his home, 1017 North Twentieth street, at 8:45 o'clock yesterday morning, had for many years engaged in the fruit business in St Joseph. He was sixty-six years old and had lived here all his life. Mr. Karnes was known as one of St Joseph's most substantial and upright men and his circle of friends was very large. The funeral will be Sunday afternoon from the residence. Interment in Mount Mora Cemetery." St Joseph News-Press, January 4, 1908
