Son of Christopher Heinrich Aab & Barbara Rank.
A first generation German immigrant that served with the Union Army; first with Company C 38th New York Infantry 1861-1863, and then with Company E, New York 16th Heavy Artillery Regiment 1863-1865 with this unit mustered out August 21, 1865, at Washington, D. C. Louis became a naturalized citizen on 15 Oct 1868 in New York, New York.

The war over, Louis married Elizabeth Sparrenberger (1836 – 1895), and having four children: Henry, a son, born in 1866, Christian, a son, born in 1868, Catharine, a daughter, born in 1871, and Elizabeth, a daugher, born in 1874
