Thomas Nowinski was born in Rypin, Poland, under the name: "Thomas Nowignski (Nowinski)". Around 1887, he married Francis (Fannie) Kolasinska. They immigrated to America in 1888, along with their infant daughter, Josephine. They settled in Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey and then in the late 1890's in the Town of Clarkstown (Rockland Lake), Rockland County, New York. In the early 1900's they removed to Hackensack, Bergen County, New Jersey. Thomas and Fannie had four children: Josephine Mary, Joseph James, John Francis and Cora.
Over the years the spelling of the last name went from Nowignski (Nowinski) ~ Novernski ~ Novern. Thomas however, kept the surname of Novernski, but his tombstone says "Novern" because it was purchased and put on the grave years later when Thomas' sons changed their surname from Novernski to Novern.
