Natalie Keyser Niles Obituary
Natalie, age 96, a long-time Concord resident for 65 years passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester on November 29th.

Born in Chelsea Vt on February 24, 1926, to father VT Supreme Court Justice F. Ray Keyser Sr. and mother Ellen Larkin Keyser of Chelsea and sister of former Governor F. Ray Keyser Jr. and wife Joan of Proctor, VT. She was the loving wife of 55 years to her husband David Arlington Niles of Concord who passed away in October of 2002.

She is survived by her daughter Sharon Niles Allison and husband Harry of Warwick, RI, her son David A Niles Jr and wife Jennifer, and her youngest daughter Melissa Niles Cox and her husband Josef of Yarmouth Port, MA and two grandsons, Sean Allison & Nathaniel Niles.

Natalie attended elementary school in Chelsea before moving to Montpelier for Jr High where she met her future husband David in the 7th grade. She became Class President in her Senior year at Montpelier High School and upon graduation in 1944 David went off to join the Navy in the Pacific and asked her to wait for him. She went on to attend VT Junior College and married David in August of 1946. They then moved to Providence where David attended Rhode Island School of Design from 1946-1950. After graduation from RISD they moved to Braintree MA and David worked in Illustration in Boston before moving to Concord in 1954.

Natalie had a lifelong interest in bird watching and she compiled quite a life list through the years. She loved nature and enjoyed many bird walks with others at Great Meadows, Punkatasset, Nashawtuc , as well as Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge.

She traveled all over the U.S., Canada, the Caribbean, Mexico, and England seeking out different species of birds - her favorite were hummingbirds in the Southwest in Arizona. Her binoculars were never far away wherever she went.

Another interest she developed in the 1950s was tole tray painting and she continued that for many years - they were magnificent!

Through her love of birds, she also began taking classes in bird carving in Concord in the 1970s and her artistic talent shown through once again.

She began working at Sentry Insurance Co. in Concord in the 1970s and was there for many years.

She also loved music - everything from Fife & Drum to Symphony, Tanglewood & Messiah Sings in Lexington. She was also an avid gardener throughout her life.

Tennis & cross country skiing were activities enjoyed by both Natalie & David. They joined the Concord Country Club in 1984 for their love of tennis and she continued her membership until 2015.

A descendant of John Howland of the Mayflower enabled her to become a member of The Mayflower Society and she also joined Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was very active in the Trinitarian Congregational Church in Concord. Besides attending on Sundays through the years she also checked in all the dealers as they arrived for set up at the annual Antique Show at the church.

Antiquing with her daughters Sharon & Melissa was almost a ritual on weekends all over New England scouring the countryside.

It rubbed off on Melissa who also began setting up to sell at Brimfield Antique Fair which Natalie loved to go and help with.

Being born and brought up in VT and spending year after year visiting relatives there she felt she had " bragging rights " to her favorite place in the world that she was a native.

Her last but not least and strongest bond was the love she had for her children and husband. She always put family first no matter what.

The last 2 years of her life were spent living with her daughter Melissa and husband Joe in Yarmouth Port on the Cape when she could no longer live independently.

In August of 2022, she moved into Assisted Living at Tatnuck Park in Worcester near her son and family in Paxton and then on to Rose Monahan.

She touched so many lives through her wit, her love, her kindness, and her many talents, and all that were lucky enough to know her were blessed.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, December 16th at 11:00 at the Trinitarian Congregational Church, 54 Walden St, Concord, MA 01742.

A spring service is planned at the United Church of Chelsea in Vermont.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to :
