Earline Polke Brown, died August 17, 2007 after a short illness.
She was born April 14, 1930 in Hemphill to Earl Newton Polke and Cora Matilda Williams, who preceded her in death. She graduated from Hemphill High School and went off to Port Arthur for college, where she met the love of her life, Johnnie Blanton Brown.
They acquired semi-professional status at the Arthur Murray Studio, a well-known dance school at the time. They wrote Mr. Murray about their Cha-Cha lessons and the letter and their pictures appeared on the cover of the Arthur Murray School of Dance magazine. She married Johnnie in 1951 and they were stationed at Barksdale AFB and she remained in Shreveport, after her husband had been killed during the Korean War in 1958, to raise her son, John E. Brown.
She was active in the little Playhouse Theatre, at Centenary College and took several trips to Europe in the early '90's. She earned a bachelor of arts degree at Centenary. She supported many causes for the public good and was active in her church. She attended services at St. Paul's Episcopal.
Survivors: son, John E. Brown and wife, Denise; cousin, John Charles Polke and wife, Miss Shirley; grandson, John Zachary Brown, Earnest Zane Brown, and Dylan T. Brown; step-grand-daughters, Bridgette Navejar and husband Jonathan, Jackie Murphy, Elizabeth Murphy, Mary Murphy; and Miss Winnie Kohout, a dear family friend.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 22 at Starr Funeral Home Chapel in Hemphill.
