Arnold graduated from Staley High School, Class of 1941. Following graduation he served with the US Army HQ TRP, 1st Calvary Division, attaining the rank of Sergeant 1st Class. He served under the command of William Curtis Chase, Commanding General in the Battle of Luzon in the Philippines during World War II.
After the war, he came home and met and married the love of his life, Marie Venable of Pleasant Garden, NC.
Arnold was a very hard-working and honest man. He always put his family first in everything he did and the decisions he made. After a thirty-year career with the U.S. Postal Service, and achieving the rank of Postmaster, he retired in 1989. After retirement, he and Marie spent may enjoyable years at their home in Myrtle Beach, SC.
He was a member of Pleasant Garden Baptist Church and the Senior Men's Sunday School Class. He looked forward to the fellowship and worshipping his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ as well as the many friendships he made over the years. He was also a member of the church Honor Guard where he took great pride in honoring other veterans who served in the armed services.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Marie Andrews, son, Arnold S. Andrews, sisters, Nina Isley, Wilma Wheeler, Thelma Hoyle, Eulalia Kellam and Mary Irene Andrews, brothers Richard Andrews, Leroy Andrews, and Garland Andrews.
Surviving are his son, Michael L. Andrews and daughter, Jacqueline M. Andrews along with five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A service of remembrance will be held at Pleasant Garden Baptist Church at 2:00pm on Thursday, September 14, 2023, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. A burial will follow the funeral service at Guilford Memorial Park.
