Dates approx. Ebbe Skjalmsen Hvide was the son of Skjalm Hvide and Signe Asbjørnsdatter.

Ebbe must have owned a large part of Haverup Ore, as the heirs are seen to have shares of it in the 1190s. He probably also had property in Bjernede, where he had a wooden church built. Ebbe had a house in Roskilde.

Ebbe together with his brother Asser Rig, oversaw the foundation of Sorø Kloster .

Ebbe was a close and important adviser to King Svend Grathe and helped in the dispute between Svend, Knud and Valdemar . According to Saxo , Svend III Grathe did nothing without consulting Ebbe. His role is similarly portrayed in the Icelandic Knytlingasaga . At the start of the civil war, Ebbe was assigned to guard Roskilde for Svend III.

Ebbe was married to Ragnhild and Gyde.

With his wife Ragnhild their children were :
Gythe (Gyde), Toke Ebbesen, Sune Ebbesen and perhaps Fin.
