Obituary
Norman Howard Barlow, Jr., 61, died Sunday, April 10, 2022, at his residence in Durham, N.C. Known as Howard, he was the son of the late Norman Howard Barlow and Ann Martin Barlow.

He is survived by his two beloved daughters, Elizabeth "Liza" Barlow and Alexandra "Lexy" Barlow, of Westport, CT, his mother, Ann Martin Barlow, and his sister, Kate Cadwallader (Robb), all of Durham, as well as his former spouse, Victoria Fuller of Westport. He is also survived by three nieces.

He never lost track of his southern roots thanks in part to his mother whom he adored. While he was born and died in Durham, NC, Howard spent many years in Westport, CT, where he helped raise his daughters. He was active at Christ & Holy Trinity church, where he was the head usher. He also enjoyed riding his bike (at very fast speeds), skiing with his girls, basketball, and tennis.

He graduated from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where his avid love of the Tar Heels began. Howard had a gift of connecting with those around him. He always remembered names, phone numbers, and other details of people's lives. He always enjoyed hearing about what was going on with those around him.

Howard loved all animals, especially the family dogs Digby and Maggie. Howard was also passionate about horses, and he passed that passion on to his two daughters, whom he loved more than anything else. Howard's happiest times were when the three of them spent many hours at various horse farms, where Howard would watch Liza and Lexy ride and care for the horses. When the girls were young, he was dedicated to ensuring they were active outside. For example, he spent many days building an extensive path system in the yard for their electric motorcycles. There was much laughter and a few scrapes. One of his favorite places was Bolton Valley, VT, where he not only enjoyed skiing with the girls but also building snow caves and sledding.

Howard had a passion for life that ended too soon.

There will be a small memorial service at a later date. Donations can be made to Alcoholics Anonymous. The family requests that you help someone with an addiction attempt to overcome it
