"FATAL TRACTOR ACCIDENT IN PEEL.
This district was shocked last Thursday night, September 10th, when the sad word passed around that a popular young Peel Twp. man, Mr. Franz G. Mantler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Mantler, 8th Concession, was found dead pinned beneath a tractor on his father's farm. Deceased was aged 17. The young man's lifeless remains were found by his father in the early evening. When Franz had not returned to the barn from going to pick stones in a field, his father became alarmed and on investigation made the tragic discovery. Dr. J. E. Gompf, Arthur, coroner for this district, was called and Provincial Police constable Don Reeds of Mount Forest, investigated. Franz was born on June 9th, 1936 and grew to manhood here. He served as an altar boy at St. Martin's Church, Drayton, and later attended St. Jerome's College, Kitchener, for two years, being a member of the Sodality. The sympathy of the community goes out to his sorrowing parents, two brothers, Joseph F. and Eric, and sister, Mary Louise. Rev. Gilbert Dehler, of St. Martin's Church, was in charge of the funeral held at 11 a.m. last Saturday, September 12, in the Church here. A large crowd was present to pay their last respects to one whose life had ended so suddenly and prematurely. Interment was in St. Martin's Cemetery. Pallbearers were Messrs. Robert and Morris Downey, William Miller, George Stickney, George Mantler and Martin Linseman. The funeral was very largely attended by friends and relatives from Toronto, St. Catharines, Kitchener, Galt and this surrounding district."
