Carleton was born November 17, 1934, in a farmhouse outside of Michigan, ND, the son of Mons and Julia (Berdahl) Aafedt. He was raised in Michigan, ND, and attended school there. After high school, Carleton enlisted in the U.S. Army. After his time in the Army was complete, he met and married Joan Sigurdson on December 17, 1960, and they moved to Riverside, CA. After his father, Mons Aafedt, passed away, Carleton and Joan moved back to Petersburg to continue farming on the family farm, where he farmed for 35 years. Carleton was a member of the American Legion for 68 years, board member of the Farm Bureau, board member of the Petersburg Lutheran Church, enjoyed curling, and spending time with his family and friends.
Carleton is survived by his wife, Joan of Petersburg, ND; son, Dan (Rene') Aafedt of Platteville, CO; daughters, Lori (John) Whalen of Windsor, CO and Tracey Aafedt of Pauls Valley, OK; grandchildren: Beth (Jermaine Callaway) Chacon, Cori Aafedt, and Cody Whalen; and his sister, Bonnie Schultz of Fargo, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mons and Julia Aafedt; brother and sister-in-law, Leland and Ruth Aafedt; and brother-in-law, Merle Schultz.
Graveside service: Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at the Michigan Cemetery, Michigan, ND.
