Peggy Young Brookbank Knowles, 92, died Friday, September 29, 2023, at Countryside Manor. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, October 2, 2023, at Liberty Wesleyan Church.
Peggy was born August 16, 1931, in Rockingham County, NC, to the late Walter and Mary Young. She retired from Southern Bell (later AT&T), was an honorary member of the NC Sheriffs Association of Rockingham County and lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Lonnie Brookbank; her husband of six years, George Knowles; daughter, Patty McCormick; and a sister, Rachel "Sissy" Stack.
Survivors include three grandchildren, Patrick McCormick (Julie), Tommy McCormick (Barbara), Benji McCormick; great-grandchildren, Savannah Stamey (Michael); Madison, Cody and Faith McCormick; special son-in-law, David McCormick; stepdaughter, LuAnne Loye; and a special niece, Cynthia McDowell.
