Josephine was born in Ernstberg House No. 6, Winterberg, Austria-Hungaria (today known as Arnoštka, Prachatice District, Czech Republic) and was daughter Karl Mondl and Anna Schneider. In 1913, she immigrated to America. She married Gregory Hotzakos and they had two sons: George and Alex. Josephine changed her last name from Hotzakos to Green, as this was her name at the time of her death.
