Raymond Jarvis was born in Jamaica, Queens, New York. He went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 9, 2003. He was preceded in death by his father, Sherman, and his sister, Florence Smith. Raymond served two years in the U.S. Army.

While residing in New York, Raymond owned a travel agency and a photography business. He also retired from the New York City Parks & Recreation.

Upon retirement, he moved to Tucson, Arizona and resided there until his untimely death while vacationing with his wife, Natica, in the Fiji islands.

Raymond spent a great deal of his time giving back to his community. He was an active participant with the following organizations: The American Friends of Service, Pima Council on Aging, Abolition for the Death Penalty, Buffalo Soldiers 9th & 10th Calvary, Amnesty International, African American Town Hall, Tucson Black Chamber of Commerce, Docent for the Arizona Historical Society, AARP Legislative Committee and a Golden Heritage Life Member of the NAACP.

Raymond was survived by his wife of 33 years, Natica; his mother, Violet Aimey (Tucson); son, Carlton (Lynchburg, VA); daughter, Diana (Brooklyn, NY); three grandchildren and a host of other family members and friends.

Raymond will always be remembered for his willingness to help others, love for the community, his sense of humor, his warm and gentle smile.
