Mahlon Joseph Demaret Sr. was a native Houstonian and lived here all of his life. Mahlon was a golf instructor and real estate broker who loved to travel and loved music. He was very active in Cooties, an honorary degree of VFW. He was a life member of VFW Post 581 and had served as Chaplain of that Post. Mahlon was also a life member of the American Legion. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Mercedes Colgin Demaret, his son, Jay Demaret and wife Carolyn, his grandson, Jason K. Demaret, granddaughter, Tiffany Kuehn; three great grandchildren; two sisters, Leona Hinson and Jane Watkins and other loving family members and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, with burial following at Woodlawn Cemetery. Arrangements by Pat H. Foley Funeral Home.
