Henry W. Horning, 96, of Ephrata, formerly of Alleghenyville, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Fairmount Homes. Born in Denver, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Harvey B. and Nancy W. Horning. He was the husband of Lela Y. Horning, with whom he shared sixty-seven years of marriage until the time of her passing in 2016.
Henry was a farmer with an avid interest in history who never tired of learning. He was a lifelong member of Bowmansville Mennonite Church.
Henry is survived by two daughters: Suzanne (John) Baker and Anne (Kenneth) Becker; five grandchildren: Heidi (Scott) Charles, Daniel (Kirsten) Baker, Michael (Julia), Jeffrey (Dania) and Douglas Becker; eight great-grandchildren: Dylan, Logan and Nolan Charles; Caleb and Benjamin Baker; Isaiah, Lydia and Maverick Becker; one sister, Lena (Michael) Brown, and one sister-in-law, Ruth Ann (Harvey Jr) Horning.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by three siblings: Irvin, Verna (Raymond) Shirk, and Harvey Jr.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 20, 2023, at 10:30 AM at Bowmansville Mennonite Church, 129 Pleasant Valley Road, East Earl, PA 17519. A viewing will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2023, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM in the Wheat Ridge Chapel of Fairmount Homes, 333 Wheatridge Drive, Ephrata, PA 17522. There will also be a viewing from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM prior to the service on Friday, October 20, 2023, at Bowmansville Mennonite Church. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
