Jackie Brooks
Jackie Brooks of Tolar died Friday, June 28, 2002 in Tolar after a brave battle against cancer. He was 67.
Mr. Brooks was born June 15, 1935 in Tolar. He was the fifth generation of the Brooks family to live in Tolar. He married June Umphress. He was a member of the masonic Lodge and Eastern Star. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, was an ordained Baptist minister and a dress salesman at Nelly Don for 15 years. He attended Baylor University and graduated from the police academy in 1981. He was a Hood County sheriff's deputy and a jailer in Somervell County for many years and was also a private investigator. He was a loving father and grandfather and will be missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, I.F. and Kate Brooks and two brothers, Top Brooks and Homer Joseph Brooks.
He is survived by one daughter, Tracy Mabe and husband Michael of Granbury; one son, Shawn Brooks of Tolar; two brothers, Jerry Brooks and wife JoAnna of Dallas, and William Brooks and wife Corrine of Paris; one sister-in-law, Myrtle Brooks of Tolar; three grandsons, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorial services were Tuesday, July 2, 2002 at the Tolar Tabernacle. Wiley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Tolar Tabernacle Restoration Fund, 1600 Campbell Road, Tolar 76476.
