Former Sheriff Killed by Train
LOUIS H. BECKMAN, a Civil War veteran of the Soldier's Home, Danville, was killed Monday noon, when he drove his automobile into the side of a freight train on the Walsh road at the Perrysville crossing just east of Union corner. He was identified by means of a small notebook in his pocket. It was thought he was returning from a visit with relatives in this county.

Obituary
Lewis H. Beckman was the son of Henry and Mary Beckman, who were both born in Germany. They came to New Orleans soon after their marriage. Their first son, John, was born there, and died at the age of 12 years. The parents came to Vermillion County where Henry followed the blacksmith trade. Henry died in 1844, and Mary had died in 1843. Lewis H. Beckman made his home with James L. Wishard of Helt Township. After serving in the Civil War, he returned home and married Laura E. Crane in 1868. He was in the grocery business. Lewis H.
