Musician. He was the keyboard player and a original member of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band. Nicknamed "Phantom Dan," for over three decades, his fluid keyboard playing helped propel Springsteen and the band's sound to international stardom. His wistful style contributed to many of the hits to include: "Born to Run," "Born in the U.S.A.," "Hungry Heart," "4th Of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)," "You're Missing," and "The Rising." Federici also released a pair of solo jazz albums with "Flemington" in 1997 and "Out of a Dream" in 2005. In addition to his work with Springsteen, he played on albums by Joan Armatrading, Graham Parker, Gary U.S. Bonds, Garland Jeffreys, and with fellow E Street bandmate, Steven Van Zandt. In 2014, Federici was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the E Street Band under the Award for Musical Excellence category.
