Rev. Joseph L. A. Harris, Jr., 83, went home to be with the Lord on May 21, 2012. He is predeceased by his wife, Pauline Harris. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 36 years of service and from Chesapeake Public School Systems after 10 years of service. He also served as associate minister at Greater Bethel AME Church for many years.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Barbara Brown and her husband Calvin, Jeraldine Chatman and her husband William, Joseph Harris, III and wife Ada, Ray Harris and wife Temple, Glenn Harris and wife Rosie, Carole Harris and husband David, Sharon Foreman and husband Anthony, Kelvin Harris, and James Harris and wife Lynda; 23 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The Celebration of Rev. Harris' life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at Greater Bethel AME Church in Chesapeake. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm on Friday, May 25th at Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N. Witchduck Rd in Virginia Beach.
