Alan "Al" Stuart, a longtime resident of Hull, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family. He was 86.

He was born in Dover-Foxcroft, ME to Mary (Hughes) and Edward Stuart. He graduated from Foxcroft Academy where he played football and ran cross-country before attending the University of Maine. Shortly into his college career, Al answered the call to serve his country and enlisted in the US Army. Being mechanically inclined and a natural problem solver he excelled as an electronics communication specialist.

After serving he lived in Arizona for a few years working in a copper mine before moving to Massachusetts to work with SH Couch Security Systems as an electrical engineer. He moved into a house in Hull and made friends with some of the neighbors, one being his future wife, Joy (Augenstern). A couple of years after meeting they married and had two sons they adored. His first job as an engineer sent him down a path that he took great pride in. He then moved on to Automatic Safety Products where he rose to become the vice president. Eventually he ended his career with Advanced Signal Alarm and Security where he retired at 83.

Outside of work his greatest passions were his family and sailing. He was a member of the Hull Yacht club for many years, participating in the Wednesday night boat races with friends for over 30 years and participating in the Great Chase Race. He loved taking his family out sailing, taking the time to show them the ropes and prove himself as a seaworthy captain, husband, father and friend.

On land, he enjoyed fixing anything he could get his hands on, from household items to stopping on the side of the road to assist in repairing a stranger's motorcycle. In his down time, he liked walking the trails at Bear Cove and Wompatuck and traveling with his family to ME and FL.

Beloved husband of 52 years to Joy Augenstern of Hull. Devoted father of Adam Stuart and his wife Kelly of Hingham and Edward Stuart of Hull. Loving brother to Peter Dunning and his wife Jackie of Exeter, NH, John Stuart and his wife Gloria of Edmond, OK and the late Judith Segerson. Cherished grandfather to Ryan Walsh Word, Aiden Stuart and Jack Stuart. Great-grandfather to Nora Joy Word. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited attend the graveside service at Hull Village Cemetery at 11 AM on Monday, November 6th.

A celebration of life for Alan will be held in the spring when the Hull Yacht Club reopens. Details to follow.
