Rommye met Reba shortly after being discharged from the Navy. They married in Toledo, Lucas County, OH. They both worked and he attended college. They had two children Dennis Riley Yancey and Diana Raye Yancey. Rom worked at selling ladies shoes, taxi cab driver, bell hop and attended college. Reba worked as a secretary.
Rommye got a job working for TVA at Shawnee Steam Plant in McCracken County in 1956. In in 1967 he attended a school in Chattanooga, TN. After completing the school he was transferred to Murffressboro, TN. In 1969 he was offered a job with a company in Paducah, KY.
In 1972 he was offered a job with Westvaco. Rommye was an active member of the United Paperworkers International Union and held office in the union. He was delegate to the West KY AFL-CIO Area Council for his local. He helped get the Labor Day parade and picnic started in Paducah. He was elected to the KY State AFL-CIO board. He was active in the Democratic party at the state and local level. He had been a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers until 1967. He retired from Westvao in May 1988. He is buried at Palestine Cemetery in McCracken County, KY.
