Martel Ahnahquod Dead - Martel Ahnahquod died Tuesday night at this home in Chippewa City after a lingering illness. He was the oldest Indian living at this place and was highly respected by his community. He is survived by his wife, three daughters; Mrs. John Drouillard, Mrs. John Newton, and Mrs. Katherine Frost, and one son, Alexander Ahnahquod. The funeral will be held tomorrow at the Catholic church of which the deceased was a member.
The death of Mr. Ahnahquod removes one of the noted characters of the north shore, he being over eighty years of age and having lived here all his life. To those with whom he became friendly he has told many interesting stories of happenings along the shore before the day of the whites, many of them being personal experiences when young, and there being stories he had heard from the old people when he was a boy. To the bereaved relatives we extend our sympathy. - Cook County News Herald, 3 Mar 1910
