Born Nov. 6, 1916, in Quitman County, he was the son of the late Jack and Azalea Stapp Hayes. During World War II, he served in the U. S. Army and he was a member of the VFW Post No. 3936. He was a member of Oakhurst Baptist Church and the Fellowship Bible Class.
Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Versie T. Hayes of Clarksdale; two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Parrish of Batavia, N. Y., and Mrs. Diane Hielscher of Orman Beach, FL; a son, Shirrell T. (Tommy) Hayes of Daytona Beach, FL; five sisters, Mrs. Beatrice Cameron and Mrs. Shirley Porter, both of Clarksdale, Mrs. Margueritte Gruber of Jacksonville, FL, Mrs. Mildred Brady and Mrs. Edith Berry, both of Helena, AR; and four grandchildren.
