Barbara was born in Corvallis, Oregon, where her father was stationed during WWII before being called to go overseas to engage in the war where he lost his life. Barbara and her mother returned to Millport where she lived until the present time. Barbara graduated high school from Millport High School. She received her BS degree from MUW in Columbus, MS and her master's degree from the University of Alabama. After college, Barbara taught business subjects for 38 years at Millport and South Lamar Schools in Lamar County, Alabama.
Barbara was a member of Millport Baptist Church where she served as church secretary for many years while also teaching Sunday School. Barbara and her husband, Donald, were active members of the Alabama and National Rural Letter Carriers Association. She served the Alabama Auxiliary Association as Secretary-Treasurer for 30 years. She was elected to the NRLCA Auxiliary board, then later elected as NRLCA Auxiliary president. She traveled extensively over the United States promoting the Association and her project, where she made many friends.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Mildred (Fowler) Christian, her grand-parents, Lester and Arie Fowler and Elijah and Jo Christian and a daughter, Leigh McAdams, who lost her life in an automobile accident at age 20.
