Henry "Ercel" Schoel, 94, of Lincoln, formerly of Grand Island, passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2023. As per his wish, cremation was chosen.
Ercel and Bernie Schoel will be remembered in a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 AM Saturday, April 6, 2024 at All Faiths Funeral Home. Daniel Naranjo will officiate.
Family will be greeting friends an hour before service time. Military honors will be rendered for Ercel by the U.S. Army and United Veterans Honor Guard.
Burial of ashes will be in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery.
Ercel was born on July 22, 1929, in Grand Island, the son of Henry Schoel and Ruby (Burnett) Loop.
He grew up in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island High School in 1948.
He also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.
On June 3, 1953, he married Bernelda "Bernie" Poehler. They lived in Grand Island where they raised three children.
Ercel was a well-respected mechanic and the owner of Ercel's Parkway DX Service and later, Ercel's Parkway Phillips 66 Service.
After back surgery prevented him from doing mechanical work, Ercel became a salesman, eventually ending his career in Grand Island at Red Rooster Sales.
Ercel and Bernie then moved to Conifer, Colorado, and eventually to Grove, Oklahoma before returning to Grand Island for full retirement.
Ercel was a Christian man who enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family. They also enjoyed camping excursions and vacations.
He was a cheerful, fun-loving man. He will be remembered for his love of God and family, his servant's heart, and his giving spirit.
He is survived by two children, Wesley (Karen) Schoel of Jacksonville, FL, and Janet (Larry) Lutkemeier of Hebron; 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson; along with extended family.
Ercel was preceded in death by his wife, Bernie; his son, Jerry; a great-grandson; his parents; a brother and three sisters.
