Tragedy struck on the afternoon of December 14, when Jackson, who had come to consider Maurice as his common-law wife, flew into a jealous rage, and took her life with a blast from a 12 gage shotgun.
When arrested, he confessed that he had recently served time at Sing Sing for killing another woman. After serving three and a half of a ten year sentence, he was granted early parole, promising to return to his estranged wife in New York City. Three days later he murdered her too, then fled to Greenport.
Marie became victim number three. Her murderer plead guilty, and went to Dannemora prison. The County Review reported that she was buried in Green Hill Cemetery at Greenport. Her two children were sent to Chicago, where they were adopted by a great aunt.
note: The NYS death index records her as "Marie Wilson"
