Dora Evelyn Atchison, age 76, of Millry, AL, passed away peacefully, Saturday, December 16, 2023, at the Washington County Nursing Home in Chatom, AL. She was born September 22, 1947, in Koenton, AL, to John C. Atchison and Dorothy Dixon Atchison.
She was a member of Mt. Carmel Community Church. She was an employee of First Community Bank (The First Bank) in Chatom, AL, for many years. Dora was a rabid University of Alabama football fan. If the Crimson Tide was playing, she would be watching the game and cheering them on. Her devotion to her family was evident to all. She loved working with the youth children at Mt. Carmel and earned a special place in their lives that they will never forget.
Survivors include her nephew, Terry Don Atchison of Millry, AL; niece Tory McVay (Carl) of Jackson, AL; great nephews and nieces, Kayla McVay of Jackson, AL, Brandon, McVay of Jackson, AL, Landon McVay of Jackson, AL, Carlie McVay of Jackson, AL, and Cody J. Atchison of Lucedale, MS; sister-in-law, Colleen Atchison of Millry, AL; and a host of cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Evelyn Dixon Atchison; father, John Candler Atchison; and brother, John Dale Atchison.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Mt. Carmel Community Church in Millry, AL, with Reverend Bill Messer and Reverend Mike Gunn officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow the service in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Millry, AL.
Serving as pallbearers are Scott Holston, Brandon Holston, Jacob Holston, Mason Holston, Johnny Holston, and Ross Dixon.
